 of the Decade

As if we needed any more reasons to adore the man in the orange Crocs.

In a decade-end round-up of top food trends published by FoodChannel.com, Mario Batali—all-star chef, author, restaurateur and beloved adopted Northern Michigander—has been named one of the top food people of the last decade. Batali’s name was included alongside the likes of other TV food stars like Rachel Ray, Emeril Lagasse and Alton Brown under the sub-heading “Celebrity Chefs.” Others mentioned in the Top Food People category included Martha Stewart and Alice Waters. Additional categories included Decade’s Top Flavors (pomegranate, ginger, green tea), Top Ten Trends (sushi, bacon, cupcakes) and Decade’s Top Recipes (macaroni and cheese, bread pudding, guacamole, crème brûlée), among others. Batali, who gained celebrity-chef status after appearing on Food Network shows like Molto Mario and Iron Chef America, owns a home in Northern Michigan’s Leelanau County, where he spends summers with his wife and two sons.
