The turkeys are coming early this year at Traverse City coffee bar and roastery Higher Grounds Trading Co.

Seth Bernard and The Invincible Turkeys will perform this Friday, November 20, inside Higher Grounds’ roastery, where soundproofing tiles have been hung to turn the warehouse-like space into a bonafide music venue. The Invincible Turkeys, a special guest band assembled just for this show, will feature Bernard’s longtime performing partner May Erlewine as well as artists Luke Winslow King, Ray Lighthouse and Mike Shimmin.

The event kicks off a series of monthly concerts by local artists at Higher Grounds, which is part of owner Chris Treter’s longview for his company. "Independent local musicians play an important role in supporting and building community, which is in line with much of the work we do," Treter says. "We hope to continue the monthly music through the summer, too."

The November 20 show will be followed by a holiday benefit on December 18 featuring Seth Bernard and May Erlewine, a January 28 performance by Chris Dorman, and other events in the works for February and March. Higher Grounds’ coffee bar will stay open throughout the event, as will neighboring winery Left Foot Charley, so that patrons can enjoy a beverage or two before the show starts.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door. More information on the show is available at Higher Grounds’ Trading Company’s Facebook page, or call 231-922-9009.
