Truly, one of the most gorgeous places to have a meal in Traverse City is at Lobdell’s, Northwestern Michigan College’s teaching restaurant. Lobdell’s is located in the upper level of the Haggerty Center and boasts sweeping views from every seat of West Grand Traverse Bay. Happily, Lobdell’s will open to the public for fall semester lunches on Sept. 23.
All the meals are prepared and served by students enrolled in NMC’s Great Lakes Culinary Institute. Some of the items planned for this semester’s menu were created by students last spring. They include:
Mushroom prosciutto crêpesMojito salad
Portobello burger
Bistro pork medallions Pumpkin-walnut crusted walleye
Food editor Emily Betz Tyra went for lunch at Lobdell’s last spring and wrote of the experience in her blog "Last Week for Lunch at Lobdell’s! Don’t Miss It!" She describes the details of the experience after starting with " Lobdell’s, a Teaching Restaurant has it all: a gorgeous perch above Grand Traverse Bay, exquisite food prepared with superior ingredients and care, and fresh-faced, unflappable servers who earnestly want to make your experience fabulous. That’s because it’s their passion. And their semester’s final grade hinges on it."
