Interlochen Public Radio’s newest original show, Jazz Connections, is quickly building an audience with its eclectic blend of jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, folk, blues, classical and world music. And now listeners can see the show happen in person with its first live broadcast this Sunday, September 20 at Chateau Chantal Vineyard, Winery and B&B.

Jazz Connections is the creation of accalimed composer and jazz pianist Jeff Haas, who uses the radio show’s one-hour format to breakdown traditional barriers that exist between musical genres and their audiences.

“Music is a great place to practice open-mindedness,” says Haas. “I have had to deal with my own bad attitudes about different types ofmusic, which were largely a result of lack of exposure and understanding. Producing Jazz Connections has opened my ears and mind to lots of new music and the hope is it does the same for listeners.”

In a break from the usual pre-recorded format, Sunday’s broadcast will feature all live performances, including music from the Jeff Haas Trio, flutists Nancy Stagnitta and Laurie Sears, and cellist Crispin Campbell.

The event is a fundraiser for Haas’ non-profit, Building Bridges with Music, which spearheads effots to foster open-mindedness and acceptance through socially conscious music education. One hundred percent of Sunday’s proceeds benefit the non-profit.

Tickets (available at treatickets.com) are $25 and $100 for preferred patron seating. A wine tasting and hors d’ouvres reception kicks off the event at 5 p.m., with the live broadcast running from 6 to 7.
