Get your face and hands dirty on a plateful of barbecued chicken and ribs. Step it up with some line dancing. Make a bid at the live auction. It’s all for a good cause: The Dougherty Historic Homesite fundraiser bbq. Proceeds from the nonprofit event will help save, renovate and eventually convert the oldest frame house in the Grand Traverse area and the 15 acres it sits on into an educational and cultural center featuring the history of Old Mission. The house was built in 1842 with the help of Native Americans for Peter Dougherty, a Presbyterian minister who established a mission at the end of the peninsula.

When: The evening of August 9.

Where: This year’s country western-themed barbecue will be held at the newly renovated Red Barn located on Center Rd. (M-37) just north of Island View on Old Mission Peninsula.

Ticket sales:  $40 per person and are available at Peninsula Market in Mapleton. 231-223-9500.
