It used to be that doing commerce in Copper Harbor at the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula wasn’t a lot more complicated than ordering up a beer at the Mariner bar. You might say that the town at the farthest reach of a peninsula’s peninsula, was, well, isolated. That was before the techie Yoopers at the Internet provider Pasty.net joined up with their clever Yooper congressman, Bart Stupak, to gather the funds to bring broadband to the Keweenaw. Nowadays, while other rural areas are proud just to get cable or fiber, Copper Harbor–and most of the rest of the Keweenaw–is on high-speed wireless. What does that mean to you? That you can do business with Wall Street while sitting in your skivvies beside Gitchee Gumee’s lapping waves.
