Don’t think you have what it takes? Matt and Keegan will convince you otherwise. The brothers insist that, with the right attitude, anyone can learn to kiteboard. “Patience and commitment” is their mantra, and the “anyone, any age, any skill level” attitude comes from their experiences kiting with everyone from 75-year-old men to 8-year-old girls.
If you’re feeling particularly adventuresome, a destination camp in North Carolina, Puerto Rico or Patagonia, Argentina, could be the kick-start for you. But you needn’t look further than your own backyard; the time-tested Traverse City-based Northern Exposure camp continues to be Broneah’s most popular learning opportunity.
The two-day program introduces beginners to kiteboarding with intensive instruction and hands-on training, hosting a maximum of six students to allow for plenty of one-on-one attention. The days are long and tiring — two full afternoons in the wind, sun and water — but you’ll leave with the knowledge needed to keep pursuing the sport on your own.
