Clay Cliffs Natural Area

This majestic 104.5-acre parcel with 1,700 feet of frontage on both Lake Michigan and North Lake Leelanau is owned by Leland Township and managed by the Leelanau Conservancy. The Conservancy can now begin to create trails, a parking area and an overlook from the bluff that will showcase panoramic views of Lake Michigan and the Fox Islands. Trail work will begin by year end and the Conservancy hopes to have the parking area and overlook in by mid-summer, 2014.

Getting there: From Leland, take M-22 north approximately 2.5 miles north.

Park along M-22 at the roadside turn off by the silver poplars, or on the South end of the property follow the two track by the black locust grove to park in the field (note: only for vehicles with high clearance).

Please remember this property does NOT have marked trails or any other infrastructure, make sure to look at the map carefully before hiking and take a compass if necessary.  Also, the Clay Bluffs are not accessible and all hikers should appreciate the view at a safe distance.
