ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Student nurse enrolled in a state approved school of nursing who has completed her/his junior year of a bachelor’s degree in nursing curriculum or completion of the first year of an associate’s degree in nursing curriculum or experience related to job requirements, e.g., LPN, Paramedic, medical training in the Armed Services. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Maintains Basic Life Support certification. ORGANIZATION Under the general supervision of the Unit Manager.Works under the direction of a Registered Nurse. AGE OF PATIENTS SERVED Cares for patients in the age category(s) checked below:_ Neonatal (birth-1 mo) _ Young adult (18 yrs-25 yrs.)_ Infant (1 mo-1 yr.) _ Adult (26 yrs-54 yrs.)_ Early childhood (1 yr-5 yrs.) _ Sr. Adult (55 yrs-64 yrs.)Late childhood (6 yrs-12 yrs.) _ Geriatric (65 yrs. & above) Adolescence (13 yrs-17 yrs.)_ No clinical contact with patients X Age of patients cared for is dependent on the specific populations seen on the unit. SPECIFIC DUTIES 1. Supports the Mission, Vision and Values of Munson Healthcare2. Embraces and supports the Performance Improvement philosophy of Munson Healthcare.3. Promotes personal and patient safety.4. Uses effective customer service/interpersonal skills at all times.5. Maintains professional working relationship with patients, families, nursing staff, physicians and the entire health care team.6. Works within the guidelines of nursing and hospital standards of practice, policies and procedures.7. Performs direct patient care activities under the delegation and supervision of a Registered Nurse.8. Recognizes and reports pertinent changes in health care status of patients to a Registered Nurse.9. Assists patients with personal hygiene, comfort measures, and activities of daily living.10. Performs all Nursing Assistant functions and only the following below, provided that they have completed the training in nursing school/previous medical experience/field training: under the direction of an RN, as described in the Lippincott Procedures online and by current policies including:a. Catheterization/bladder scansb. Removal of sutures/staples, as directed by RN after RN assessment of woundc. Removal of peripheral IV lines (not PICC lines)d. Obtain 12-lead ECGs, if specified by unit. e. Assist RN with routine dressing changes f. Oropharyngeal suctioning g. Colostomy care, ileostomy careh. Provides assistance with admission, transfer and discharge procedures11. Observes, records and reports pertinent information accurately and promptly.12. Maintains confidentiality of patient information.13. Assists with the medication storage, stocking, transportation, and checking of expiration dates as delegated.14. Nurse Techs in procedural areas such as VAS, Infusion, Urgent Care under the direction of a Registered Nurse may perform:a. Insertion of peripheral IV cathetersb. Peripheral IV dressing change c. Central Venous Catheter dressing change d. Central Venous Catheter removale. Central Venous Catheter blood sampling18. Nurse Techs in NICU, under the direction of an RN may perform heal stick blood collection. 19. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
