General Information

     Reporting to the Blue Area Manager, the Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Technician will provide technical skills to ensure all compressor control systems and equipment are effectively maintained and safely operated in accordance with our standards of performance, policies and procedures. 

     The successful candidate will have to travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve overnight stays away from home.

      * Will be required to carry a company mobile phone, to work with team members on a rotating on-call schedule, which is subject to 24-hr/day callout at any time for emergency response.


     * Independently perform installation, testing, repair and maintenance on compressor station equipment and other facilities relevant to the pipeline system, as required;

      * Perform routine and major maintenance on gas recip engines, gas compressor units and associated auxiliary equipment;

      * Perform measurement, rectifier, mechanical and pipeline work as required;

      * Perform emergency repairs to meet customer and client needs;

      * Oversee the safe and efficient completion of projects;

      * Active control of contractors;

      * Ensure facilities and personnel comply with TransCanada’s safety, health, environment and risk standards;

      * Procure resources and manage within budgets for the facilities;

      * Provide support to our business partners, as required;

     * Other tasks as required.

      Qualifications and Education

     * Strong background with PLC s (example: GE Fanuc, Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc.)

      * Possesses analytical and troubleshooting skills;

      * Competent in the use of test equipment applicable to the maintenance of control systems;

      * Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;

      * Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills;

      * Proven ability to work effectively alone and in a team environment.


     * Must hold a minimum of one of the following technical certifications/qualifications   Instrumentation Technician certificate diploma/Electronics Technician certificate diploma; and/or Certified Journeyman Electrician;

      * Experienced with the interpretation of technical reference documents;

      * Experienced with troubleshooting controls systems;

      * Related experience in the gas and oil industry would be an asset;

      * SAP experience would be an asset.

     *Depending on the qualifications of the applicants, the successful candidate may be offered a position at a more appropriate level and/or ladder.
