TRAVERSE CITY: Crooked Tree Arts Center, in collaboration with The Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park, will present a series of free events centered on the theme “Art and the Garden.” Human beings have long found ways to relate to nature. Art and the Garden celebrates distinctive interpretations of a liberal and open theme of “the garden.”

The Art and the Garden juried exhibition will be on display May 29 – August 1 at 322 Sixth Street. Visitors to the show will enjoy 48 works in a variety of media, created by regional artists as well as artists from fifteen other states. The exhibition kicks off with a reception and award ceremony on Friday, May 29, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The reception is open to exhibiting artists and CTAC members, and guests are welcome to become members at the door.

On Saturday, May 30, CTAC will hold a plein air paint out and wet paint sale at The Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park. Wine and light appetizers will be served.

“At a paint out, artists register in the morning and then spend the day painting outdoors, en plein air,” explains Megan Kelto, Associate Director. “The finished but still wet works are then sold that evening. It’s a lovely event, and a great opportunity to buy a new, original piece that captures the beauty of our area.”

On Tuesday, June 16, Crooked Tree Arts Center will host a presentation by Karen Schmidt, board chair of The Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park. Located in the heart of Traverse City, The Botanic Garden is a year-round sanctuary of environmental preservation, recreation and education. This presentation is a part of the “Coffee @ Ten” free lecture series.
