White Pine Stampede….Hundreds will compete in Michigan’s longest and oldest point-to-point cross country ski race. The annual WPS stretches over the hills and through the woods of Antrim County while raising funds for the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Races are 10K, 20K and 50K. The competitors in the 50 kilometer and 20 kilometer races are divided into classifications based on the style of skiing, (classic or freestyle), gender and age. Awards are given to the TOP THREE FINISHERS in each class. All three events start at the Mancelona High School. Prior to the race, utilize the common area of the school, for preparing, waxing and maybe having a pancake or two before tackling the trail. Your warm ups will be transported and made available to you at your finish. Transportation will be available to return you to your car in the school parking lot. At the conclusion of your event, and after having located your car, feel free to join us at the Shanty Creek Summit Center for the SHORT’S BREWING POST RACE COOL DOWN. A sampling of Short’s product, together with snacks, will be available for all as they discuss the day with friends and family while viewing a slide show of the day’s events. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. The SHORT’S BREWING AWARDS CEREMONY will begin promptly at 3:30 p.m., in the same room. Winner or not, join us for a continuation of the festivities. Presenting sponsors – SHORT’S BREWING COMPANY and SHANTY CREEK RESORTS. We look forward to seeing old friends again and making new friends. The race committee and the communities of Mancelona and Bellaire welcome you to join us on the first Saturday in February. Become a part of our tradition. After finishing your race, join us at the Short’s Brewing Cool-down in the Bellaire Ballroom in the Summit Village Lodge. Rehash the race with friends as you enjoy Short’s Product for only $1.00 per glass or $4.50 a pitcher. Snacks will also be available for you as you watch the slide show of the days events. This will be available for you after 1:30 p.m. Stick around for the Short’s Brewing Awards Ceremony.
