Area residents and visitors are invited to attend Discovery Day at the University of Michigan Biological Station. During this event, the Station is open to the public and gives tours of  its facilities. Discovery Day will be from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, July 14.

This year’s Discovery Day will offer two presentations starting at 2:00. One will be on the Biological Station’s history.  The other will be  on piping plovers, a local endangered bird species. Visitors can take a self-guided tour of campus. Stops include an insect lab, an underground soil observatory, , student housing and more.

Since 1909, the Biological Station has provided field biology classes and housed ecological research on organisms and processes in the Great Lakes.  Its campus is on Douglas Lake and surrounded by over 10,000 acres of undeveloped land. It is located at 9133 Biological Road, north off Riggsville Road (C-64), approximately 6 miles east of US 31 and 3 miles west of I-75.
