This event features a 10-mile triathlon: 1-mile kayak/SUP, 6-mile bike and a 3-mile run. Also available is a 22-mile triathlon: 2-mile kayak/SUP, 14-mile bike and a 6-mile run.
Like the popular M-22 Challenge, Tri-Up North has a “paddle” portion, instead of swimming.
“Tri-Up North has something for all. The 10-mile Classic course is safe, flat and fast, we want area youth and adults, who may have never raced, to give it a try. It’s about taking on a manageable challenge and conquering it. And for those more adventurous spirits we have the 22-mile Challenger course.”
The paddling for both events is in Betsie Bay, participants can use a traditional kayak or stand-up-paddleboard (SUP) for the 1- or 2-mile paddle. Bring your own equipment; pre-arranged rentals are available.
The Classic bike course is along the Betsie Valley Trail adjacent to Betsie Bay and the Betsie River. The Challenger course starts on the Betsie Valley trail and continues on the scenic roads of Benzie County and along Crystal Lake. “Both courses are canopied with trees and have great fall colors and views.”
Finally, the 3-mile and 6-mile runs race along the Bay to finish in downtown Frankfort at the Taste-of-Benzie food & beverage celebration.
Early registration for the 10-mile Classic is $35 for youth 18 under and $40 adults. Information on the 22-mile Challenger race or the team competitions are found on the website.
