The Charlevoix Historical Society is screening the world premiere of a new historical documentary, “The Wizard of Boulder Park” at Charlevoix Cinema III on June 8, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. The documentary focuses on the life and works of Earl Young, a self-taught builder who created thirty-one of the world’s most unique homes and structures in Charlevoix using glacial boulders culled from the northern Michigan landscape. Produced and directed by three-time Emmy-award-winning documentary filmmakers Brian and Anne Belanger of Bon Ami filmworks, the film will present authentic stories and perspectives of Earl Young’s work from the viewpoint of historians, architects, current homeowners, friends and family members.
General Admission tickets go on sale at the Charlevoix Cinema III starting May 1, 2015. Order by phone by calling 231.547.2661.
Prior to the screening of the film, a gala reception will be held in the lower level of Stafford’s Weathervane restaurant in Charlevoix, in what was Earl Young’s real estate office for many years. For those attending the gala, a panel discussion with the filmmakers, preservation architects and members of Earl Young’s family will follow the screening. For details on the gala, contact the Charlevoix Historical Society at 231-547-0373.
