Riverside Shakespeare heads to the wild west this summer with their production of Two Gentlemen of Verona, under the direction of Jeannette Mason. This will be their 18th summer performing in Hannah Park and other regional venues.
The two gentlemen of Verona are Valentine, played by Bill Myers, and Proteus, to be presented by Michael Curtis. The two love interests of these gentlemen are Silvia, played by Jill Beauchamp, and Julia, to be presented by Janet Stipicevich.
The two clownish characters, Speed and Launce, will be played by Rori Richardson and Don Kuyehlhorn respectively. Ten other actors, ranging from veterans of the company to brand new to Riverside Shakespeare, fill out the rest of the cast.
Best friends Valentine and Proteus tease each other over their love affairs, but when they end up as rivals for the same woman, it tests their friendship. There is a female in disguise, and a banished lover who ends up in the forest as King of the Outlaws. It’s a wild ride through the old west with this cast and play.
Performances will be on Thursday, July 13 at the Old Arts Building in Leland at 7:00 pm; Saturday, July 15 at the Memorial Park in Elk Rapids at 6:00 pm; and Sunday, July 16 at Hazerot Park in Northport at 6:00 pm.
Then Riverside Shakespeare moves to their home base for their last four performances in Hannah Park, Traverse City. Performances at this park at Sixth Street and Union are on Thursday, July 20 and Friday, July 21 at 7:00 pm and Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23 at 6:00 pm.
