From 5pm-7pm on Wednesday, October 21, the Oliver Art Center in Frankfort, MI, will host a celebration for ArtPrize 2015 top public vote winner Steve and Ann Loveless of Loveless PhotoFiber. The general public will come together to congratulate Steve and Ann, Benzie County residents, on their monumental achievement.
Steve and Ann’s entry, Northwood Awakening is a collaborative effort, combining Steve’s photography with Ann’s quilting. On their Artprize entry page, Steve and Ann write that “Our creation begins as a traditional photographic print on the left then blends various fabrics and textiles to metamorphose into an entirely quilted textile on the right.” The image represents spring renewal in the Northern Michigan forests and is inspired by their own spring hikes in Benzie County.
422,763 votes were cast this year. Loveless PhotoFiber won the public vote for Grand Prize Winner with a $200,000 award, as well as the Two Dimensional Public Vote Award for $12,500. Ann Loveless won the same prize in 2013 for her quilt `Sleeping Bear Dune Lakeshore`, making her the first two-time grand prize winner.
The event is free and open to the public. There will be cake and light refreshments as well as Ann and Steve’s award winning piece on display. `Northwood Awakening` will be on display in the entrance gallery for several weeks following Wednesday’s reception.
