North Central Michigan College’s Luncheon Lecture will take a look at newspapers and democracy, Friday, October 7. The program will be held in the College’s Library conference room. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program begins at noon.
“Were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter,” said Thomas Jefferson. Bob Giles, retired editor and publisher of the Detroit News and curator of the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University, discusses the vital role the news media play in sustaining our fragile democracy.
