A new statewide traveling art show making its debut in May 2016, sponsored by North Country Community Mental Health. The show is comprised of about 25 pieces of art created by people who use community mental health services statewide, beautifully matted and framed. The show includes the work of local artists Scott Bergmann of Boyne City and Linda Collins of Kalkaska. Mr. Bergmann’s piece is entitled, “Fire House,” and is in folk art style, painted on glass. Ms. Collins’ piece is entitled “Blau Kraut,” and is a stylized painting of a cabbage.
The show has two goals: 1) to help de-stigmatize mental illness, intellectual/developmental disabilities and substance use disorders by showcasing the talents of people who use CMH services; and 2) to highlight the recovery potential of the arts. Artwork from the show is for sale. The show is curated by the Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards. There is no cost to attend. The show will travel to three venues during the month:
1) May 5-11, 2016 – Antrim County Building, 203 E. Cayuga, Bellaire, MI 49615
2) May 12-19, 2016 – Petoskey District Library, 500 E Mitchell St, Petoskey, MI 49770
