Marilyn Stockwell-Colestock is an intuitive painter who studied under Marilyn Derwenskus and Sonia Molinar and traveled to workshops with Nita Engle, Barbara Nechis, Frank Webb and Margaret Martin.
Over the years she has been accepted into many juried shows in Michigan and Florida – The Detroit Artists Market Juried Garden Sale, Grosse Pointe Artist’ Association Juried Exhibits, the Crooked Tree Arts Center Juried Fine Arts, Birmingham/Bloomfield Art Association, Celebrate Life Shows and Our Town Exhibits in Birmingham. Marilyn had a solo exhibition at the Crooked Tree Arts Center in 1990.
Marilyn Stockwell-Colestock is very much involved in the arts both as a singer and a painter. She attacks paper in animated, loose impressions, as she strives to catch the spirit of her subject. Her unorthodox zany streak translates into large happy florals, amusing animals and semi-abstract impressionistic studies. She adores animals and paint custom pet portraits with personality.
“With classical music or a recording of the ocean surf as an accompaniment, I love to paint bizarre eccentric images – to let my imagination and emotions of the moment carry me along.” Marilyn describes herself as a “slightly wacky old lady and award winning artists. My impressionistic watercolor pets and zoo animals have humor, spirit and personality. I paint animals, florals, and mixed-media collage with a loose spontaneous energy.”
Exhibit Opening Reception: Saturday, April 18th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Members and their guests are invited to join us for the opening of the Marilyn’s Wonderful Wacky Whimsical World Exhibit in the Atrium Gallery at Crooked Tree Arts Center-Petoskey. Light Refreshments will be served.
