Our focus will be on learning to appreciate poetry as a diverse literary art form through close readings and discussion of the work of classical and contemporary poets. We will examine a broad selection of free-verse and traditional-form poetry and its elements, such as imagery, music, tone, and use of the line. You will leave the course with a deeper understanding of poetry, a broad selection of poems, and suggestions for further reading.

Tanya Muzumdar teaches English and poetry at North Central Michigan College. She is also the editor of Dunes Review. Her poems appear in Prairie Schooner, Nashville Review, THRUSH Poetry Journal, Crab Creek Review, Salamander, Superstition Review, and elsewhere. Tanya holds an MFA from Pacific University and has served as a writer-in-residence at Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts.
