Defining “rock and roll” broadly as a family of musical styles, this program will present an overview of rock/pop styles from the 1950s to the present; in addition, we will examine the historical origins and evolution of rock and roll music within the context of cultural, social, political, and economic history, elaborating on the pervasiveness and persuasiveness of rock and roll in modern society. Taught by Erick Haight, a graduate of Central Michigan University and currently the full-time professor of psychology and humanities at North Central Michigan College, as well as a former freelance album reviewer for Alternative Press and Bust. Meets November 3, 10, 17 at 5:30 p.m. in the Petoskey District Library Classroom. $10/session; please register, 231.758.3100
