Interlochen Center for the Arts invites every ukulele lover in the region (expert or novice) to join in on the inaugural Uketoberfest, a one-day ukulele event to be held on Saturday, October 4 on the Interlochen Center for the Arts campus.
The event features all things ukulele for all skill levels. Whether you are an absolute beginner, an advanced player, an intermediate player or a pro, participants of Uketoberfest will have the opportunity to meet others of like-mind and develop or enhance their skills on this fun, guitar-like instrument.
Guest artists and master class instructors are traveling from all over the state and nation and include the likes of The Ukulele Kings’ Ben Hassenger, Pat Mallory, and Steve Szilagyi, Gerald Ross, Danielle Ate the Sandwich and Chester Winowiecki.
The event kicks off in the morning with an open group strum and leads into a day of elective masterclass sessions specific to the uke player on chord structure, strumming techniques, songwriting, adding bass instrumentation to your own ukulele group and building your own ukulele.
The day concludes with a late afternoon concert featuring performances by the guest artists. An optional post event gathering offers an open mic setting for participants looking for further fellowship and the opportunity to perform.
The cost for this one-day event is $45. For more information and to register, visit college.interlochen.org/uketoberfest14.
Interlochen is located about 12 miles southwest of Traverse City where US-31 meets M-137.
