The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra is hosting, and extends an invitation for all to attend, a “Day for Strings” on Saturday, February 20th at Petoskey High School located at 801 Northmen Drive.
The Orchestra’s intrinsic worth goes far beyond the music they perform; they are a valuable educational resource for our community, as evidenced by this event. This day includes a series of workshops for string musicians of all ages and abilities and will conclude with a side-by-side performance with members from the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra at 3:00 p.m.
The cost for students to participate in this workshop is $12 for the day ($10 for any additional family members.) Scholarships are available to assist with the expense of participating in the “Day for Strings.” Participants are asked to bring lunch and a music stand, if they have one.
Check-in is at 10:00 am for Level Two and Three students, 12:00 p.m. for level One students. Level One is considered a beginning student. Pre-registration is requested and entry forms and music can be found at www.glcorchestra.org or by calling 231-487-0010.
At the conclusion of the workshop, all participants will also receive one free adult ticket to the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra Concert, “Selections from Carmen” at 7pm on Sunday, June 12, at the John M. Hall Auditorium in Bay View.
The “Day for Strings” performance at 3:00 p.m. is open to the public and is free of charge. As strings are the largest family of instruments in the orchestra, the sweet sounds of the violin, viola, cello and double bass will resound through the auditorium for all to enjoy. Please join us for this special event and enjoy your community’s rich musical talent.
