The Leelanau Community Cultural Center is sponsoring its fourteenth annual Fiber Festival on Friday, October 10 from 5 to 8 pm and Saturday, October 11 from 10 am to 5 pm at the Old Art Building in Leland. Artists with original fiber art will exhibit and sell their work in mediums of wearable art, textiles, weaving, art quilts, fiber sculpture, knits and yarns. Admission is free.
The featured artist this year is Char Bickel holds a BFA in painting and weaving from U of M, and an MFA in Fiber Surface Design from the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Char makes painted silk collages combining the warmth and spontaneity of painted brush strokes with the clear shapes of cut collage pieces. Most of her images depict local animals and landscapes in an abbreviated, playful, colorful, visual poem. Visitors will be treated to a behind-the-scenes look at Char’s work viewing one of her pieces in sequential stages of completion.
