Kyle and Emily from East Jordan love to watch Bizz Kids on PBS, it’s a program about how young people start their own business. They always wanted to earn some extra cash but didn’t know what to sell for a product. Their mom loves quilting and had taken a class a couple years before on how to make landscape quilts with small pieces of fabric. With this idea in mind, together this brother and sister formed a team and started K&E Picture Quilts. Kyle (age 14) cuts all the fabric into confetti size pieces. Emily (age 12) is the fiber artist and designs them from pictures in her mind. Their mom quilts them and frames them. People often remark how similar they are to the work of Anne Loveless (the winner of the Grand Rapids Art Prize 2013 and 2015). The kids have a different method and are inspired by Anne to enter Art Prize in the near feature. Kyle and Emily have been in most area craft shows, and look forward to participating again this year. Their picture quilts will be available for purchase.
