Leah Moss — Hand Lettering
Saturday July 9 / 6:30-9 pm
I’m Leah, a calligrapher who lives in Birmingham, Michigan, which I’m proud to call home. I glean deep satisfaction by helping others tell their stories, especially as they celebrate life’s most special moments. Adding unique written elements can help transform a great event into something truly unforgettable.
I am a word lover in general and appreciate the lyrical beauty of stories, alongside the visual aesthetic of lettering. Calligraphed pieces allow a blend of the creative visual layout of words with the beauty in their meanings. I graduated from the Honors College at Michigan State University with a BA in English and a BA in Linguistics. I’m a member of the Michigan Association of Calligraphers and I promise to bring my passion and dedication to each and every piece.
Class fee: $85 (includes materials)
The Charlevoix Circle of Arts is now taking registrations for the summer kid’s art camps as well as adult workshops. “There are five camp experiences this summer and we are very pleased to be working with Lori Bolt, Laura Kelly, Caroline Smith and Frank Hasseld who are offering some unique camp programs,” notes Gail DeMeyere, Executive Director of the Circle. Lori Bolt from St. Mary School is teaching two classes, one called Puppet Theater and the other called Art from Found Objects in June and July. She is a well-respected and sought-after camp instructor. Her husband Frank Hasseld is adding something new in August called “Tool Time” where children learn the fundamentals of building with tools and creating wooden projects.
Board Member at the Circle of Arts, as well as chairperson of the Education Committee and teacher at St. Mary School, Laura Kelly is teaching two classes with the assistance of Caroline Smith from Charlevoix Elementary School. “The summer camp classes are an extension of the year-round arts education series that we are creating at the Circle,” continues DeMeyere. “We are focusing on bringing meaningful experiences to all levels of learning from youth to adult. Classes range from fine art pastel instruction to Japanese woodblock printing taught by Mary Brodbeck from Kalamazoo, Michigan, to fun evening sessions in hand lettering. Our program is growing with new offerings monthly. The best way to stay current is to visit our website which is getting updated daily with new details.”
