Northern Michigan’s rural landscape – and its iconic, historic farm buildings – are the focus of Frankfort painter Ellie Harold’s exhibition at Center Gallery. “Barn Love,” a show of plein air and studio oil paintings opens July 5, at the gallery, 6023 S. Lake St., Glen Arbor.
Harold’s love affair with the region began in 2007 “when I first saw barns in Leelanau County,” said the 2009 artist-in-residence at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. She depicts her subject matter in a limited palette of red, blue and warm yellow and in a spare fashion. Harold was awarded an artist residency in 2011 with the Glen Arbor Art Association; she authored the recently published 7 Habits of Deeply Fulfilled Artists; and conducts painting retreats and workshops.
A reception for the artists is July 5, 6 p.m. Another opportunity to meet and talk with the artist takes place July 9, 1 p.m. at Center Gallery. Harold will talk about her affection for northern Michigan barns, her technique and answer questions. “Barn Love” continues through July 11. For more information, please call 231/334-3179.
