Artist David Westerfield to Present at the GAAA
Manitou Music Festival poster design winner, David Westerfield, is the current Artist-in-Residence at the Glen Arbor Art Association for the past two weeks. His presentation to the public will be on Thursday, June 28 at 7:30pm. Westerfield lives in Glenview, IL, where he has a graphic art business. He is a frequent visitor to Leelanau where he is captivated by the “visual beauty of the shore, dunes, and the many historic locations.”
Westerfield studied art history and drawing at Wayne State University in Detroit. He moved to Chicago where he graduated with a BA in Art with a concentration in drawing and painting. After 25 years of commercial art production for numerous publications including “Fortune,” “The Saturday Evening Post” and the drawing book series “Draw it,” Westerfield returned to his love of fine art and Plein Air painting in particular. He attended a Plein Air workshop taught by Marcia Burtt in 2006. In 2011 he was awarded first place at the GAAA Plein Air competition.
Now he regularly paints at favorite locations in Michigan, California and Hawaii “producing finished Plein Air paintings as well as studies later developed into larger pieces in the studio.” His presentation is free and open to the public at the Glen Arbor Art Association at 6031 S. Lake Street across from the Cherry Republic. Refreshments will be served.
Westerfield’s poster titled “Rising Moon” is for sale at the Glen Arbor Art Association and several shops in Glen Arbor.
