The Shetler family throws open the barn doors and parties ’till the cows come home. (Milking is at 5pm, so everybody needs to be out by then!)
“Last year over 2,100 people attended throughout the day,” said Sally Shetler, “We even had a calf born at the event!”
Come sample different flavors of all-natural glass bottled milk and delicious cookies. A special child area features a hay maze, face painting, petting farm and story hour. The whole family can enjoy the hay rides, sloppy joe lunch (served all day, by donation) and an ice cream booth. Great local vendors and a few surprises round out the day.
Everyone is invited to visit this working family dairy farm where “the cows aren’t on drugs, but they are on grass!” Admission is free and parking is easy. No reservations necessary, the event goes on rain or shine.
Kalkaska, home of the National Trout Festival, is located where M-72 meets U.S. 131, about 25 miles East of Traverse City.
