It’s fun to chase the grandkids around from arts and crafts activities to movies and to pie eating contests, but when that all gets a bit old, National Cherry Festival 2017 offers plenty of alternatives exclusive to its 50-and-older crowd. Pass the kids back to their parents and take some time to visit these events tailored to the Northern Michigan senior.

Seniors’ Bingo

Spend the morning of July 7 on a classic game that’s hardly been played out. Ten rounds of bingo will be played at the Traverse City Senior Center Network between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m., and will conclude with the awarding of prizes. This event is open to people 50 and over and requires no reservation or fee.

Seniors’ Euchre Tournament

Join this tournament for an evening spent playing an old Northern Michigan favorite. This event will take place at the Traverse City Senior Center Network from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on July 7. Plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to the event’s start and to stay for the duration of the tournament. Prizes will be awarded, refreshments provided, and fun had. No need for a reservation, but a small fee will be required. Ages 50 and up.

Seniors’ Shuffleboard Tournament

Get on your feet in the spirit of friendly competition. Equipment is provided, but seniors are also invited to bring their own. The Shuffleboard Tournament begins at 9 a.m. on July 6 and is expected to run until 1 p.m. that same afternoon at the Traverse City Senior Center Network. Registration is required for this event, but there is no fee. Participants must be age 50 or older.
