January 6:

World’s Largest Ski Lesson: Crystal Mountain and Boyne Resorts will be joining over 120 ski areas around the nation in an attempt to set the Guinness Book of World Records mark for the largest ski and snowboard lesson as part of National Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month. Wilderness Sleigh Ride Dinner: Treetops Resort’s shuttle transports guests to the Project Nature property where a fire and a hot drink will await you. Tahquamenon Sled Dog Race: The Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race features more than 60 teams from across the continent. Classes include four-dog, six-dog, eight-dog and 10-dog races. The races begin at 9:30 a.m. with a new team taking off every few minutes. Come out to pet the dogs, meet the teams and cheer them on during this all-day event! Muskallonge Lake State Park. 906.658.3365

Stomp The Park and Lantern Light Hike: Dress warmly and bring water and a flashlight or headlamp. Hike, snowshoe or ski the park and meet on the beach for a bonfire, s’mores and a fabulous night view of the Mighty Mackinac Bridge! This event (details here) is held in conjunction with other events on National Winter Trails Day.

January 8:

Community Appreciation Day at Boyne: Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands resorts offer a full day of FREE skiing/snowboarding and more to residents of Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet and Otsego counties from 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. The parks, pipes and cross-country trails are available at both resorts. Downtown Traverse City Bridal Show: The show features over 30 local experts in all phases of wedding planning, and is highlighted by a Bridal Fashion Show at 3:15 p.m., featuring the latest in wedding fashions.
