FRANKFORT: Now in its third year, Frankfort Beer Week starts flowing Monday, October 3 with a Chef Invitational Beer Dinner featuring eight prominent northern Michigan chefs. Each chef has been invited to pick one beer handcrafted by Frankfort’s Stormcloud Brewing Company and then create one course to pair with their chosen beer. (Tickets available here).
The invitational beer dinner will take place in the main dining room of the historic lodge at Chimney Corners Resort on Crystal Lake, just north of Frankfort on scenic highway M-22. Chefs attending the inaugural “Cloudvitational Beer Dinner” are James Bloomfield of Alliance (Traverse City), Randy Chamberlain of Blu (Glen Arbor), Aaron Hagen of Bridge Street Tap Room (Charlevoix), Mickey Humpula of 9 Bean Rows (Suttons Bay), Simon Joseph of Harvest and Gaijin (Traverse City), Guillaume Massieux of La Bécasse and Bistro FouFou (Glen Arbor, Traverse City), Joe Meyers of Stormcloud Brewing Company (Frankfort), and Steve Tebo of Chimney Corners Resort (Frankfort).
“We are incredibly excited to welcome the caliber of chefs who are attending this event, truly a talented set in the northern Michigan culinary scene,” says Stormcloud Head Brewer and Co-Owner Brian Confer. “Many of these chefs were the first to have our beer pouring in their restaurants and we’re honored to be represented in their exceptional establishments. This event brings multiple chefs together to collaborate, which will be a first for Frankfort Beer Week and a one-of-a-kind event in our area.”
Stormcloud Brewing Company will make a donation on behalf of the event to the Benzie County Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program. Frankfort Beer Week continues through Saturday, October 8 with beer- and food-themed events happening in both the coastal city of Frankfort and the neighboring village of Elberta. Activities scheduled this year include:
State of Michigan Hops Presentation – Rob Sirrine, educator for Michigan State University Extension, will explore craft beer trends, the history of hops, and the state of the hop growing industry in Michigan. The presentation will be followed by tastings of beers brewed with 100% Michigan-grown hops. Rob’s presentation will take place in the Garden Theatre on Tuesday, October 4 at 7 p.m.
Cooking Up A Storm Class – Back by popular demand, Oliver Art Center in downtown Frankfort will host a Cooking with Beer class with instruction led by Stormcloud Brewing Company’s Executive Chef Joe Meyers. Participants will learn how to use beer to create a wide range of flavors. Cooking Up A Storm is scheduled for Wednesday, October 5.
Beer & Food Pairing Workshops – Stormcloud Brewing Company, recently voted Michigan’s Best New Brewery by MLive Media Group, will host two beer- and food-pairing workshops this year. On Thursday, October 6, Stormcloud’s Beer and Cheese Pairing Workshop will explore the flavors produced by combining fine cheeses with handcrafted beer. Then on Friday, October 7, Stormcloud breaks out the guilty pleasures for a Beer and Junk Food Pairing Workshop.
Additional Frankfort Beer Week events include a beer tent at Frankfort’s annual Fall Festival on Betsie Bay, a homebrewers’ competition, an outdoor beer movie, an Oktoberfest celebration, and beer-infused food creations at many Frankfort and Elberta area restaurants.
