TRAVERSE CITY: Presented in partnership with the Downtown Development Authority, Crooked Tree Arts Center will host a two-day Plein Air Paint Out in downtown Traverse City on August 19 and 20.

During a paint out, artists work en plein air (in the open air) painting the scenery in natural light conditions, and working within a fixed amount of time. On August 19, artists will work from 4 p.m. into the night, capturing scenes in and around the Friday Night Live block party. On August 20, artists will paint from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., anywhere within the DDA district and downtown waterfront.

The paint out will be immediately followed by a “wet paint sale” on Saturday, August 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Crooked Tree Arts Center – Traverse City, located at 322 Sixth Street. Guests are invited to attend a short awards presentation, and browse and buy paintings created during the two-day event. The guest juror for the downtown paint out is Northern Michigan art icon, Charles Murphy.
