June 10-12: National Asparagus Festival. Celebrate the asparagus harvest in Shelby! There are family activities daily throughout the festival, including a parade on Saturday. 231.861.8110.

June 11: Leland Wine & Food Festival. Enjoy the fantastic local culture while sipping award-winning wines and tasting delicious specialties from area restaurants and vendors. Soak up beautiful views of Lake Michigan and the Manitou Islands from the Leland Harbor venue. Wine Festival ‘Come & Go’ re-entry wristbands allow you to explore beaches, unique shops, galleries and Historic Fishtown anytime during the festival, 1 to 8 p.m. Live music all day, beginning with Sierra Cassidy and featuring The Ben Daniels Band. June 11-15: Classes at Three Pines Studio. Three-day painting intensive with Stuart Shils. Gallery open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m in Cross Village. 231.526.9447.

June 12: Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra. Highlights from Bizet’s Carmen: The characters are true-to-life with Don JosĂ©, the humble corporal; Carmen, the enchantress; and Escamillo, the dashing bullfighter forming the love triangle. Bizet’s music moves the drama forward with brilliantly composed intermezzos and preludes that set the scenes and provide programmatic transitions. With Carmen, Bizet composed a genuine masterpiece with its melodic invention, orchestration, and harmonic resourcefulness. The performance is in Petoskey at the John M. June 16: Jazz at Sunset. Bring family and friends to Old Mission Peninsula and enjoy the best in live jazz featuring the Jeff Haas Trio, taste select Chateau Chantal wines and lemonade for the kids (yes, this is a very family-friendly environment), and feast your eyes on spectacular panoramic views of West and East Grand Traverse Bays.
