This May, runners will have the chance to be a part of the inaugural Stafford’s Top of Michigan Community Marathon on the Little Traverse Wheelway.

With roughly 26 miles separating Charlevoix and Harbor Springs, event organizer Jeff Winegard says it was just a matter a time before someone got around to hosting a marathon between the cities. On May 28, the region will finally get its race when the Top of Michigan Trails Council hosts a national-race qualifier run on the Little Traverse Wheelway—a scenic bicycle and pedestrian path flanking Little Traverse Bay.

Winegard says the Wheelway’s flat course is perfect for those seeking a fast qualifying time for higher profile marathons. Proceeds benefit the Top of Michigan Trails Council and the Petoskey High School Cross Country and Track teams.
