Today is a day of celebration, as Bell’s Brewing out of Kalamazoo has dubbed March 21 Oberon Release Day 2016! Many await the seasonal brew’s annual release, as it represents a sense of spring with its citrus taste. While we are in full support of all Michigan businesses, we want to point out that there are Northern Michigan beers made with orange zests, too!

Here’s a list of a few Northern Michigan breweries and suds that scream spring with fresh orange flavors.

Rare Bird’s Whip Pour Will

229 Lake Ave. | Traverse City

Made with coriander and orange peel, this Belgian Witbier is light and refreshing.

Hop Lot’s Coywolf

658 S West Bay Shore Drive | Suttons Bay

Looking for a blend of grapefruit and orange flavors to dominate your palate? Here you go!

Cheboygan Brewing Co.’s Blood Orange Honey

101 N. Main Street | Cheboygan

Local wildflower honey and blood orange zest are mixed together with a blood orange puree for this smooth and slightly sweet wheat beer.

Short’s Brewing Company’s Space Rock

121 N. Bridge | Bellaire

Available by the bottle at their pub in Bellaire, Space Rock is crafted to remove gluten. Floral and orange peel–like aromas and flavors take over the tongue with every sip of this American Pale Ale.

Stormcloud’s Starbelly Saison

303 Main St. | Frankfort

On tap around April 1, Stormcloud’s latest saison has citrus tastes stemmed from orange, lemon, lime, and grapefruit zests that are added after fermentation. Added bonus: They hand-zest right at the brewery!
