Northern Michigan Ice Skating Rinks

Whether you prefer skating under the snowflakes in the great Northern Michigan outdoors or inside on a glossy sheet of ice, there are plenty of Northern Michigan ice skating rinks to glide across from Marquette to Traverse City. Grab your mittens, lace up your skates and get on the ice!

Civic Center’s Howe Arena in Traverse City

The Civic Center offers daytime and evening open skate sessions along with skate rentals for $3. Here’s the skating schedule.

Ice Skating Park in Suttons Bay

Enjoy pick-up hockey games and free skating at the Suttons Bay outdoor rink located on the corner of Broadway and Lincoln Street.

Griffin Arena in Harbor Springs

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, this indoor rink offers a special “Stick and Puck” open skate from noon to 1:30 p.m. and then a regular open skate following from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Open skate costs $5 and skate rental is $3. Check the schedule for open skate times on Saturdays.

The Homestead in Glen Arbor

The Homestead offers an outdoor ice rink that’s professionally maintained and free to use. No skates? No problem! Skates can be rented for a small fee from Mountain Flowers (call 231.334.5233 to inquire about equipment availability and pricing). Once you’re done, a hot chocolate or a warm meal are just steps away.

Kaliseum in Kalkaska

The indoor rink offers open skate sessions Monday through Thursday. Prices range from $4 to $6 depending on residency. Here’s the schedule.

Lakeview Arena in Marquette

Newly remodeled, the indoor rink offers a variety of recreational activities including public skating, junior and adult hockey programs, figure skating, rental skates, and ice rental for community groups and organizations. Hours and prices vary by day, age and event. Check the schedule for details.

Mt. McSauba Recreation Area in Charlevoix

The outdoor rink is open Monday through Sunday at various times for open skating. There is a $1 fee to use the rink and skate rental costs $1. View the skating rink hours.

Winter Sports Park in Petoskey

Enjoy skating on two large outdoor rinks. When you’re done gliding around, check out the warming house that includes a fireplace, seating, concessions and more!  Skating is free, and skates can be rented for $5 a pair.
