Cherry Blossom 14 is set to open in Traverse City on Thursday, December 17 in time for the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, says Bob Parsons, Grand Traverse Cinema manager. Doors will open at 7 p.m. opening night. The new Carmike Cinemas multiplex is located at 3811 Marketplace Circle, along the U.S. 31 South retail strip on the site of the former Horizon Outlet Mall.

There will be 14 theaters inside the new Traverse City movie theater multiplex with a total of nearly 3,000 seats. The largest theater will feature an IMAX screen. The state-of-the-art theater multiplex will have streamlined ticketing and concessions, advanced lighting and sound technology, 3D, and cushy seats with retractable armrests and cupholders. In addition to traditional refreshments, Cherry Blossom 14 has a beer and wine bar, Ovation, currently under construction. Local wines will be on the menu including the semi-sweet riesling (a great popcorn pairing) and the cherry wine (the perfect compliment to any chocolaty snack) from Chateau Fontaine.

An invite-only ribbon cutting ceremony and VIP party will be held Tuesday, December 15. The public is welcome on Wednesday, December 16 for a special charity event with $2 drinks, popcorn, and movies. Regular public showtimes begin December 17.

Cherry Blossom 14’s current neighbor, Carmike Horizon Cinema 10, will be closing soon, Parsons says. Additionally, Carmike Grand Traverse 9 in the Grand Traverse Mall will close on Wednesday, December 16, the day before Cherry Blossom 14 opens to the public.
