The 2015 Northern Home & Cottage Home Tour takes place on Saturday, September 19 from 10 am to 5 pm. The tour treats tourgoers to 12 homes, each chosen for their distinctive style and/or innovative lifestyle concept. Proceeds raised during the home tour will benefit Northern Michigan non-profit, Child and Family Services of Northwestern Michigan. The fifth stop on the 2015 Northern Home & Cottage Home Tour is located in Glen Arbor at Vantage Pointe 19, The Homestead | Woodridge Road.
The Homestead’s Vantage Pointe development, set on the far northwest corner of Sleeping Bear Bay, has grown one lovely home at a time since its inception in the 1990s. Somehow, however, the prize lot, nestled up to the protected acreage of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, was overlooked—until Todd and Wendy Opperman snapped it up last year.
Working with Paul Maurer Contracting and designer Angela Goodall the couple has built a light, airy and very stylish vacation home deserving of its spectacular site. c Sails breeze by, freighters pass, birds and squirrels flit and hop in the surrounding leafy forest.

Everything about the home was designed to complement the view. A scraped walnut-brown wood floor recalls tree bark, the kitchen counters and island topped in thick white granite streaked with the shades of dunes and water evoke, well, sand and water, and the weathered-wood staircase feels like driftwood.
The home lives simply with touches of luxury. A top of the line Pro 48 SubZero refrigerator sports a classy glass door, the Wolf range is topped with a custom hood, a stacked stone wall is outfitted with a big-screen television and a gas fireplace, a fully equipped wet bar and lounge area exude relaxation and a spa tub at treetop level offers up glimpses of Lake Michigan through the boughs—all of which makes this home rock.
