SUTTONS BAY:  After nearly 11 months of construction, brothers Steve and Drew Lutke are ready to open the doors of their much anticipated Hop Lot Brewing Co. in Suttons Bay, MI. The newly constructed 1,300 sq. ft. timber frame taproom displays lavish amounts of rich natural wood which is accented by reclaimed barn lumber, ‘Old Chicago Brick’ and chalk boards wrapping around the interior walls. On display, directly behind the taproom wall, is the brewhouse featuring a 3 bbl system, 10 fermenters and cold room for keg storage.

This summer, Hop Lot will open their ¾ acre beer garden for guests to enjoy. The “Traditional German-Style Biergarten, with an Up-North Twist” includes a Cascade Hop Garden, campfires, picnic tables amongst tall maples, outdoor games, strung lights, outdoor stage and clear view of the summer sky.

“We were shocked by the turnout we had for our unannounced soft opening this past Saturday,” said Drew Lutke. “Going in to Saturday morning, we were confident with the beer selection and our support staff, so we decided it was time to hang up our construction hats on the project and open the doors.” Over the past 11 months, Steve and Drew have been onsite, working alongside Steve’s father-in-law and General Contractor, Pete Leabo, of Suttons Bay. “Drew and I had no prior building experience heading into this project. Pete deserves a lot of credit for having the patience to guide us through the process. We want to thank him for giving us this amazing building,” said Steve Lutke. Pictures of the building process are on display in the taproom.

To add to the full brewery experience, Hop Lot currently has 6 beers on tap with 4 new releases “on deck” for this Friday. Current beers available include a Blonde Ale “Highway Robbery”, an American Wheat, Amber Ale, Brown Ale, Oatmeal Stout “Kittywampus” and a Double IPA “The Norseman”. Beers are available in 5oz flights, 16oz Pints and 10oz pours for higher ABV varieties. Complementing the beer, Hop Lot’s kitchen will be serving a limited Spring Menu which includes Pulled Pork or Pulled Chicken Nachos, Hummus with warm Pita and also Soft Pretzels. The food menu will expand after Memorial Day. Hop Lot’s current Spring hours are Friday 3-10PM, Saturday 12-10PM and Sunday 12-8PM.

In preparation for the summer, Hop Lot has begun to interview candidates for serving, bartending and kitchen positions. Those who may be interested are asked to contact info@hoplotbrewing.com.
