LELAND: At the Old Art Building in Leland on Friday, May 1 at 7:00 pm, the Leelanau Community Cultural Center will host A Trip to Italy through the Eyes of Two Artists. This event is free but donations are appreciated.

Last November Melanie Parke and Richard Kooyman traveled to Italy, invited by the American Ambassador to Rome to be artists in residence at his private residence in Tuscany. Come hear Richard speak of their adventure and see the places and art work that most inspired them in Venice, Florence, Siena, and Rome.

See the painting that Aldous Huxley called the most beautiful painting in the world. Come hear the story of St. Cecilia whose skull is entombed on the island of Torcello. Find out how old the Duke of Urbino’s wife was when Titian painted her wedding night gift.

This will be a fast paced travelogue through the eyes of two artists!

At 6:30 pm join us for an Italian Wine tasting with Becky Hemmingsen, certified Sommelier from the Wine Shop at Hansen’s.
