BELLAIRE: Short’s Brewing Company announced plans to distribute Starcut Ciders in Northern Michigan beginning on February 11th and 12th, 2015.

Launched in November, 2014, Starcut Ciders has been offered solely at Short’s Brewing Company in Bellaire. Initial keg distribution will take place in Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie, Kalkaska, Antrim, Emmet and Charlevoix counties at select bars and restaurants. Distribution will expand to neighboring counties this spring with Starcut Ciders being made available to businesses throughout the state later this year. Bottled cider is expected to be released this coming fall.

Spearheaded by Short’s Head Brewer, Tony Hansen, Starcut Ciders are handcrafted with fruit grown in Antrim County. Working with local farmers, Hansen and other Short’s Brewers crafted 10 unique ciders for Starcut’s launch in November, 2014 and continue to explore this new area of fermentation, which offers a gluten-free option for consumers.

“This launch is the final step in what has been a very exciting project that started over a year ago. We spent a lot of time researching, procuring and transforming local apples into Northern Michigan-style cider. Now that we have our cider-making program developed, we’re ready to share it with a broader audience,” said Tony Hansen.

Alongside pub favorite, Tabula Rasa (a semi-sweet cider with melon like flavors and tart, green apple aromas), 6 new cider varieties will be available including Navi (a golden colored cider with light sweet aromas, boldly sour and bitter flavors, and a mild earthiness) and Dundela (a semi-dry cider with candied red apple aromas, caramel, sweet and tart fruit flavors).

Short’s Brewing Company Partner and President of Business Development, Scott Newman-Bale explained that “This project has been exhilarating as it has allowed for entrepreneurial spirit, creative vision and community support. We wanted to create something that will be a true asset to the region and state extending the economic and cultural impact that the company has.”
