Ten Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day in Traverse City

This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday, so we whipped up a day of fun for you to enjoy in Traverse City! Whether you’re partnered up or looking to enjoy time with friends, here are ten ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day that take you from good eats to invigorating activities. Here’s how to unwind with your partner or friends…

Breakfast at Towne Plaza

Start your day out right, with giant mimosas and hot-off-the-griddle pancakes. We love these berry pancakes for their crispy edges and warm maple syrup. If pancakes aren’t your thing, bring on the protein (pork is their specialty)! Try their eggs benedict, surf and turf or smoked salmon style…. Not full yet? Split the fruit salad—a thick slice of banana bread smothered with fresh fruit and yogurt. Scrumptious! Read the full menu here.

Get your hands dirty at the Terrarium Bar/Darling Botanical Co.

Head over to the Warehouse Market and let your creativity run wild in the inspiring space of Darling Botanical where you can construct your own terrarium. Bring your own container or choose one there. The friendly staff is on hand to show you the ropes of terrarium building. By the end of your time you’ll have a fresh new terrarium to enliven your home.

Explore Downtown

Get out for some fresh air and explore downtown. Stop by Morsels on Front Street to select a fun pack of bite-sized morsels to enjoy during an afternoon snowshoe. Choose from their daily specials or classics like the Milk’s Companion and Brownie Points.

Sample Spanglish

After cruising the streets of downtown, head over to the Grand Traverse Commons for an authentic meal at the irresistible Spanglish. Find them in the small yellow brick building next to Left Foot Charley. Split the “Big Daddy” burrito, nibble some tamales and whatever you do, don’t leave without trying the fresh salsa and guacamole!

Snowshoe Grand Traverse Commons

Transition from your tasty meal to an outdoor excursion and choose from several trails that are used year-round for hiking and leisurely strolls at Grand Traverse Commons. Find a trail that suits you and strap on your snowshoes!

Wine & Cider Tasting

You don’t need to venture far to warm up after your snowshoe. Step into the welcoming atmosphere of Left Foot Charley where you can try the Cinnamon Girl cider. Or, if you’re up for an extensive wine adventure, embark on Romancing the Riesling, a special Old Mission Valentine’s Day tour. Each winery you visit will showcase a Riesling perfectly paired with a food offering.

Quickie at Venus

After your adventures, sit back and relax at Venus with their new service that’s perfect for a quick touch up after a day in the elements. For only $15 Venus offers 15 minute “quickies” to do hair, makeup or nails!

Dinner at Poppycock’s

Make your reservations ahead of time, because Poppycock’s will be bumping on Valentine’s Day. Known for their divine desserts, creative cocktail menu and eclectic entrees, Poppycock’s is the ideal place for a stellar dinner. Right Brain Brewery “Art Bomb: Art Prom”

Shimmy and boogey to the sounds of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s at “Art Bomb: Art Prom,” beginning at 8PM at Right Brain. Not only is it a great way to dance the night away it also acts as a benefit for the TART Trails ($5 suggested donation matched by Right Brain Brewery). If you come in costume enjoy $2 off drinks. There will also be special beer punch, a photo booth, music provided by Leif Kolt, a dance-off contest and prizes for the prom king and queen.

Get a Room

If you’re from out of town or you’re planning on going all out, book a room downtown. For breathtaking views of the bay, check out the Park Place Hotel and West Bay Beach Holiday Inn Resort. If you don’t want to stay in the heart of TC check out some other close hotel options.
