On October 4, 2014 Boyne Mountain Resort is hosting their sixth annual Skitoberfest! Enjoy a day of activities that will keep the whole family entertained from face painting, beer tasting, the Snowsports Expo featuring 2014 Olympian Karly Shorr and much more!

The Snowsports Summit is hosted by Olympian and U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame inductee, Cary Adgate, and takes place from 10 am to 5 pm in the resort’s Civic Center. The summit features ski gear, technique seminars, physical conditioning tips, and a ski swap. Milford native Karly Shorr, fresh off her sixth place finish in women’s snowboarding slopestyle at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, is this year’s special guest speaker. She will give a free presentation at 1:30 pm about her early years riding the slopes of Boyne Mountain and her road to the Olympics. An autograph session will follow.

In addition to celebrating the coming snow sports season, Skitoberfest also revels in the best of fall in an Oktoberfest-style setting. The event comes alive with acrobatics, fire breathing performances and activities galore beginning at noon. More than 100 varieties of Michigan beers, wines, spirits, foods and treats are available for tastings and new this year, a food truck gathering. Skitoberfest also offers live street theatre and performances, groomer rides, free scenic chairlift rides, chalk art, a 25-foot climbing wall, family movies and hayrides.

Kids’ attractions are plentiful and include a Northwoods Soda root beer and soda garden, petting zoo, pony rides, bounce house, face painting, inflatables, Burton Riglet Park for 3-to 6-year-olds and more.

An elaborately decorated Biergarten opens at 2 pm with beer, food and fun.  As the evening approaches, a DJ, dancing, and the Detroit-based band, Soul Street, keep the bash in the Biergarten going well into the night.

The on-snow Rail Jam (guest judged by Karly Shorr) starts at 3:30 pm. Registration is 10 am-3 pm at the Expo.

Event goers can also watch a parade with street dancing at 6 pm, and join the Pray for Snow Bonfire at 7:30 pm.

Admission for all events is free; tickets are sold for tastings and select day-time kids’ activities, and a cash bar is available during the evening entertainment. For a complete schedule of events, visit boynemountain.com.
