Northern Michigan Outdoor Movie Screenings in August

Hot August days translate to warm, dry evenings—perfect for all the outdoor film events happening across Northern Michigan. Here’s a list of Northern Michigan outdoor movie events and locations in several Northern Michigan towns, so get the blankets and cinema snacks ready!


St. Ignace

Every Sunday during the summer, St. Ignace’s American Legion Park is transformed into an outdoor theater for the city’s “Movies by the Bay” series. Screenings begin at dusk, and free popcorn is available to attendees. The August line-up is as follows:

  • August 3rd: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
  • August 10th: The Croods
  • August 17th: 42
  • August 24th: Monsters University
  • August 31st: Despicable Me 2

Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa in Thompsonville

The village of Fife Lake presents “Outdoor Movies in the Park” at the Village Park, which is located in downtown Fife Lake on State St. The following movies will screen during August:

Cherry Bowl Drive In Theater in Honor

The Cherry Bowl has delivered an authentic drive-in experience since 1953. A double feature starts at sundown seven nights a week; this throwback is the real deal (or reel deal, if you prefer), and their new digital projection system will carry this staple of Northern Michigania through the 21st century.
