We’ve mined the list of ‘Red Hot Best’s’ top contenders from the June issue of Traverse, Northern Michigan’s Magazine, and worked up a seam-stretching foodie weekend with stops at a few favorite Northern Michigan restaurants and food finds. Gas up and activate the GPS: the foodie highway beckons.  The following Northern Michigan road trip itinerary was first featured in the 2014 June issue of Traverse, Northern Michigan’s Magazine.

Morning Coffee

Get your morning mojo at Brew in Traverse City.  Locally roasted beans via pulled espresso shots, aromatic pour-overs or old school drip. There are cold pints and craft spirits if it’s that kind of morning.

Picnic Lunch

Prepare to dislocate your jaw on delicious panini, like the Italian Club or Carolina Reuben, from Traverse City’s Folgarelli’s. Troll the olive barrels and cheese case, grab a cold bottle of local rosé from the cooler, and head for the water.

Obligatory Afternoon Pie Break

It’s impossible to speed along our orchard-laced highways and not feel the cherry pie imperative. Feed this essential need at The Cherry Hut, Beulah’s kitschy vintage institution.

Lakeside Libation

All this eating demands an afternoon intermezzo, and where better than Knot Just a Bar in scenic Omena, where cold booze and views of lovely Omena Bay will build your appetite for round two.

Dinner

Oaxaca and Bangkok deliciously collide on the same plate at Georgina’s in Traverse City.  This bustling Asian Latin micro-café in the hip East Front Street eating district. Dive into Chef Anthony’s ‘Red Hot Best’ Around the World tacos. Then take a siesta.

Sunday Brunch

Mosey into Patisserie Amie in Traverse City for savory crêpes aux lentilles, a big bowl of café au lait and a soupçon of sweetness from the pastry case is a classy and delectable way to wrap up your Red Hot foodie binge. À bientôt!
