Give back to Northern Michigan public schools and meet a Michigan sports hero at the same time! On Saturday, April 26th, Darren McCarty will visit Northern Michigan for a book signing to help raise funds for Manistee Area Public Schools’ athletic programs.  The Detroit Red Wings legend will attend the 14th Annual Spring Dinner & Silent Auction, a fundraiser organized by the Manistee Chippewa 350 Club Athletic Boosters.  The event will take place at Manistee’s Little River Casino; proceeds raised at the event will contribute to the athletic programs of Manistee High and Middle Schools.

Purchase Tickets to the 14th Annual Spring Dinner & Silent Auction:

McCarty will be signing his recently published autobiography, My Last Fight: The True Story of a Hockey Rock Star, which recounts McCarty’s career as a hard-nosed enforcer for the Detroit Red Wings and his personal, off-ice struggles.  McCarty will provide autographs for other memorabilia brought to the event, although guests are asked to limit their autograph requests to one item.

The 14th Annual Spring Dinner & Silent Auction will also feature a wide variety of sport’s memorabilia available through a silent auction fundraiser.  The ceremony will commemorate the work of Manistee Athletic Hall of Fame inductees Doug Schlaaf and Robert Johnson.  The evening’s proceedings begin at 6 pm, and the event will feature a buffet dinner, live music and cash bar.
