How do you avoid the last minute scramble to reserve a campsite at one of Northern Michigan’s many beautiful campgrounds?  By booking now!

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is currently taking reservations for harbor slips and campsites for the upcoming 2014 camping season. The Michigan DNR recently upgraded to a new and improved campground reservation system in the fall of 2013; the system features site-specific reservations all season long, broader search capabilities and photos of each campsite.  Reservations are available within a six-month window, so residents are encouraged to explore the new system and make reservations well in advance.  Harbor slips and campsites are available to book through mid-September, 2014, and reservations for later dates will be available as time passes.

“We want our guests to have the best possible experience with Michigan’s award-winning state parks, starting from the moment they make their reservation until they leave our parks with cherished memories,” said Ron Olson, chief of the DNR’s Parks and Recreation Division.  “Because reservations can be made up to six months out, the window for July and August campsites has been open for several weeks now,” Olson added. “We are seeing many sites being reserved, but there is still some availability at many of our guests’ favorite campgrounds.”
