On March 10th, Petoskey was named the victor of Native Eyeware’s 2014 “Locals Only Project,” a competition to decide which of 5 US towns would provide the backdrop for a Native Eyewear promotional campaign.

Native Eyewear conceived the “Locals Only Project” as a means to highlight a city that embodies an outdoor lifestyle, and to feature the people, places and stories of the selected town in the company’s advertising campaigns.  As per previous years—this is the fourth installment of the project—local writers, videographers, and photographers will document their lives for the project, with oversight provided by Native Eyewear coordinators.

A public vote conducted via Facebook decided the competition, with Petoskey eventually receiving the most votes.  The four other cities competing in the poll were Salida, CO; Fayetteville, WV; Gig Harbor, WA; and North Conway, NH.

The campaign to gain votes for Petoskey in the contest was spearheaded by a number of area business organizations, including the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Petoskey Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Emmet County and North Central Michigan College.
